As daily life happens we often get consumed in the craziness. We go off in our head and start to contemplate the “what ifs.” Next we begin to worry about these mental constructs playing out. Why do we torment ourselves? Wouldn’t it be better if we could assert some control over our thoughts? This would enable us to get grounded and better manage stress.
To make things worse, most of what we worry about never happens. The vast majority of stress is a result of worrying about the future. The body’s response to stress is meant to be short lived. This week was the first time in several years that I have experienced significant stress in my life. Just when I thought I had risen above it, it came back to bite me. As I have mentioned in earlier blogs, I went through a period in my life where I experienced such severe stress that I would get sick several times a week. I have been fortunate to get control of it. As each year has passed, I have gotten better at managing stress. This past week has been a test and although it wasn’t as severe as what I dealt with earlier in life, it definitely woke me up to the fact that I haven’t totally overcome all of my challenges.…

12 years ago when I bought my house in Palm Beach I immediately joined the club at the Ritz Carlton around the corner. It’s a beautiful place right on the ocean. The hotel became my gym. It also became the entertainment for my children. My favorite spot on the property is the hammock on the Southeast corner of the property. You rarely see people there, and it has a wonderful view of the ocean. Often, after my workout I go spend 10 or 15 minutes on that hammock, watch the sunrise or just close my eyes. I often reach a state of bliss for that short period of time.…
