Waiting For Happiness
We spent the last 4 weeks talking about New Year’s resolutions. While it’s important to have things to strive for, it’s even more important to enjoy the ride. John Lennon once said that life is what happens when you are busy making other plans. The question is, is life just passing you by? Are you sacrificing now for the future, waiting for happiness after you attain your goals? “After I make a millon dollars, then I’ll be happy.”
Life is a series of moments. How many of those moments do you truly enjoy? If you are always looking to the future, it is impossible to truly appreciate the here and now.
Young children live in the moment. They appreciate the world around them. As we age we loose this sense of wonder. We put labels on the things we think we know and that sense of amazement goes away.
For this week, take a step back and practice being present in the moment. Get out in nature. Notice the sounds and the scenery. Try looking at the world from the perspective of a young child. Appreciate the wonder and amazement the world has to offer. Stop waiting for happiness, it’s a choice you make in this moment.
