Most Important People

IMG_2447How many people do you have in your life that are there for you unconditionally? I’m not just talking about people who will listen to you vent about problems, visit you when you are sick, or watch your dog or children when you need them. Instead, who in your life would be willing to take you in, care for you long-term, and even face financial hardship to do it? These represent your most important people.

I am so grateful when I realize I have many people in my life that I can unconditionally count on – my family. Each year for the past 20 years, my parents have rented a huge house at various, wonderful venues. My two brothers, our wives, and all the grandchildren come to spend a week together. As I write this, I am on my way home from this year’s trip to Whistler and Vancouver. I am feeling tremendous gratitude for the experience and for my family.

How often do you get together with your most important people? If you don’t do it on a regular basis, is it something you can start? It’s so important to stay connected to the most important people in your life.

Who in your life would be there for you in a serious crisis? Family members? Friends? Colleagues? If you can’t think of anyone, consider the reason. Why have you lost touch with the most important people in your life? Do you not let people in? Have you burned bridges? Have you allowed the bonds to break?

The point is that you never know when you will need the help or support of the people around you. Relationships need to be cultivated. Identify your most important people, pick a location, and plan a get together. Once you are there, start planning the next one. It will provide an opportunity to share amazing experiences while you strengthen your relationships.
