Make Your New Year’s Resolution a New Year’s Intention (Part 1)

As we move into a new year, many of us have the luxury of taking time away from work. This is the perfect opportunity to begin to evaluate your life and more specifically, the direction your life is headed. So I ask you, is your life moving in the direction you want it to go? Are you clear about what you want your life to look like? Most of us have made attempts at directing our lives by making New Year’s resolutions. I also know that 95% of the time, most are unsuccessful after only a few months. If you could make your New Year’s resolution a New Year’s intention through additional structure and discipline, your odds of success would increase exponentially.

In an earlier blog, I discussed the idea of putting together a wish list. The simplest way to do this is to begin by looking at your ideal life situation. Are you happy with the direction your life is taking? Are you experiencing your most opportune family situation? Do you enjoy your work? What activities are you most passionate about—Traveling the world, golfing, laying on the beach, skiing?  What things would you like to have in your life—a great house, a sports car, and a huge bank account?

Take a full mental inventory of your desires. Once you have them in your mind, create a list of all of your desires on paper. Next, go though each item on your list and ask yourself why you want each one.  How would your life be enhanced if you were to manifest each desire?

Next week we’ll discuss how we can move from a desire to an intention on our path to helping you to make your New Year’s resolution a New Year’s intention.
