How Can I Create Balance In My Life | Joel Brookman

I used to run 5 days a week. I found that the once I reached a point where I was consistently logging over 25 miles each week, I would injure my knee, get shin splints or have some other ailment that required me to stop running for a period of time. If I kept my distance under 25 miles a week, I would remain injury free. The key factor for staying healthy was moderation.

We all know people that decide to lose weight and go on strict diets. When you see those same people a year later, the majority of them are no longer on the diet. In most cases they manage to put back the weight they lost. Those individuals that make subtle changes to their diet, like having more frequent, smaller meals, switching from regular to diet beverages, making better food choices, and engaging in regular exercise, are usually far more successful at keeping the weight off. Why? They have created routines that have helped them succeed in creating balance in their lives.

If you are asking yourself “How can I create balance in my life,” You must start with the realization that too much of anything is usually not good. Reflect on your life and identify areas where you see yourself being excessive. Do you drink more than you should? Do you work constantly and take your family for granted? What can you do to create more balance in your life? If you find yourself spending an inordinate amount of time working, can you schedule more time with your family? The suggestion is to literally block the time on your calendar every week and be completely engaged with your family during that period.

The ultimate solution lies in creating good habits. Once you’ve identified the areas in your life that are out of balance, create routines to bring these items into alignment and make these habits a part of your life. If you execute consistently, you will succeed in creating balance in your life.
