Celebrate Your Success
I was talking to my good friend, Marty, the other day. He is a successful business owner. We always seem to discuss the things we are working on and we keep each other motivated. I shared my blog topic with him and he began to tell me how ironic it was as he was just beating himself up over all the things he has yet to accomplish. Then he took a step back and began to recognize the things he has accomplished. The point: stop obsessing about what you have yet to do, and take time to celebrate your success.
Many of the goals we have are long term in nature. As we move toward those goals we have incremental wins. Do you take the time to recognize and celebrate those incremental wins?
Assume you want to be promoted to the next level at work. This promotion can take years to manifest. In your annual review, your boss praises you for the work you have done and you get a small bump in salary as a result. It’s not the promotion you want but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. Take the time to appreciate it. Take the family to a nice dinner or have a weekend getaway with your spouse to celebrate your success.
Think about a win you’ve had over the past week regardless of how large or small. Take the opportunity to acknowledge that win. Keep in mind taking the time to celebrate the small successes helps you maintain your motivation as you move to toward your larger goals.
