At the end of this year my 10-year old daughter will graduate from elementary school. The school has a formal ceremony and people make it a big deal. I struggle with the significance because in the US you have no choice but to continue beyond fifth grade. We’re celebrating an accomplishment that every single child has to fulfill. When fall comes, sixth grade will start and she will continue her learning.
In my mind, graduation from high school or college is a real accomplishment because not everyone does it. For many people it marks the end of learning. I would argue that graduation from your highest level of education can mean the end of formal classroom training, but we must always continue to learn.…

Listening skills are incredibly important both in personal and business life. If you want to improve your relationship with your significant other, do a better job of listening. If you want to retain your best employees, listen to them. Even if you consider yourself to be a good listener, you can get better.

I was on a flight from New York to Palm Beach last week and had the benefit of sitting next to a successful business owner named Steve. From the moment I got to the seat I could tell he was great guy. It actually had little to do with me initially and everything to do with how he treated our flight attendant.
