I was running a seminar in front of a large group of people. I had met the next speaker I was about to introduce at an event the night before. As I’m standing at the podium, I realize I don’t remember his name. In truth, I didn’t remember it 60 seconds after our introduction the night before. I wasn’t focused on it when he told me. Even after the prior night’s introduction, as we spoke, I was thinking about what I wanted to say, instead of being present and focusing on him. In the end I gave the audience a 5 minute break, and got his name from a colleague.…
If you’ve been following my blogs, I suspect you have made a commitment to change something in your life. Whether it’s our health, relationships, career, or spiritual development, we all seek a better life. The real question is, what are we willing to do to make that change happen? We know changes to ones health require consistent exercise and a disciplined diet. But breaking old, bad habits can be difficult and change requires motivation.
What helps? Defining your motivation. Lack of motivation actually takes several forms. Even when you state an intention for a specific change, you can have a sense of guilt, fear, or even regret associated with that change.…

I made the suggestion of redirecting your awareness to avoid dwelling on unpleasant or stressful thoughts. The question is, other than during sleep, do you ever quiet your mind? Do you know how? What if you took the time to just be?
Most of us have an activity we find therapeutic that puts us in the moment. Skiing does that for me. It forces me to be present. For other people it could be gardening, walking the dog, or some type of exercise.…
