3rd Party Evaluation

Last week I joined a new gym and they offered me a free personal training session. I took them up on the offer and then proceeded to pay for a couple of extra days. As the trainer did his evaluation he asked a series of questions. The first was how long I had been consistently working out. I had to think for a moment, then I realized the answer was over 20 years. I haven’t taken more than 2 weeks off in the past 20 years. His next question: “Why are you here?” My answer: “I want to get a third party evaluation on my workout.”…

See The Good

Every morning when you wake, you have a decision to make: Do you choose to see the good or will you focus on the bad?

If you like the idea of maximizing your happiness, it makes sense to surround yourself with as much of the good as you can. Ultimately you become influenced by the stimuli around you. If you want to see the good, surround yourself with people, content, and things that make you happy. This means eliminating or at least minimizing that which brings you down: news, family drama, office politics, etc. If you have a coworker that gets under your skin, figure out a way to spend less time around him.…

People Want to Help

Human nature is a wonderful thing. If you can tap into it, life flows more easily. One thing I’ve learned about human nature is that most people want to help. We like to solve problems and be the hero to others. The key to making this happen is for the person helping you to establish ownership of your problem. In order for them to willingly take it on, they have to have a reason to want to help. Liking you is a great reason.

Manage Your Relationships

Every important relationship requires work. Your ability to manage your relationships is critical to your success and happiness.

1. Manage your relationship with your significant other. Consider finding a few hours a week one-on-one, no kids, no friends, just the two of you. Take the time to really listen and focus on each other. Make sure you communicate effectively. If something is bothering you and you don’t discuss it, it will fester into resentment. Communicate often and get things out before they have a chance to build into something bigger.

2. Manage your relationships with your customers. Don’t assume that just because someone is currently doing business that it will continue indefinitely.…
