Make People Feel Good About Themselves

People do business with you because they like what are selling or they like you. The faster you figure out how to get other people to like you, the more successful you’ll become in business and in life. As you create these relationships and impact the lives of others, your life becomes more rewarding. Human nature suggests that if you make people feel good about themselves, they will look more favorably upon you. The benefits here are countless. Let’s discuss some ways to do this.
1. Listen to what people have to say. Everyone wants to be heard. So often people just go through the motions, but they’re not truly tuned into the other person in the conversation. They’re too busy formulating their own response and trying to get to their own story. If you make the conversation all about them (everybody’s favorite topic) they will come away thinking what an amazing person you are.
2. Notice things about people and compliment them—Hair style, weight loss, articles of clothing. Chances are they put a lot of thought or effort into it. If you notice and complement them, they’ll appreciate you for it.
3. Do something to make people look in good in the eyes of others. Notify their boss of a job well done or give them a compliment in front of their significant other. People like to be praised publicly.
4. Do something for them that they would never expect. Give them a story to tell other people. If you have amazing service at a restaurant, give your waitress a 100% tip. If you meet someone new that you really enjoyed, send a handwritten note in appreciation of the encounter.

The key to winning people over is putting yourself in their shoes, and thinking from their perspective. Give it a try. You’ll be amazed at the response.
